TIERRA DEL FUEGO
Amidst colorful hiking trails and winding roads, the southern tip of Argentina is an
isolated treasure of wildlife and national parks. Termed Tierra del Fuego for the
indigenous coastal fires spotted by pioneer explorers, this province is home to
Ushuaia, the world's southernmost town.
With magnificent snow-capped peaks gracing its perimeter, Ushuaia is
recognized for the legendary Beagle Canal, attracting curious travelers with
peaceful nautical tours. Clouds stretch across the horizon, producing striking
reflections in the rippled water below. In addition to sawmills and fisheries,
Ushuaia is distinguished for its local harbor from which several cruise ships
begin their arctic expeditions. Such cruises highlight the fjords of the region
before visiting the distant islands of neighboring Chile. For those with deeper
pockets, a cruise to Antarctica could very well be the dream trip of a lifetime.
Often referred to as the End of the World Train, the vibrant red locomotive of
Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino carries travelers into Tierra del Fuego National Park.
Filled with rushing rivers and towering trees, the park is a natural paradise for
those seeking birds, wildflowers, and opportunities to kayak. Before leaving, be
sure to feast on the southern king crabs!
